Share our newsletter
spacer (1K)

Please forward this newsletter to the players, parents and coaches on your team.  We find that the more people that have the newsletter from your team, the better prepared the team is for all the other activities that are happening here during Pitch for the Cure weekend.

These newsletters will be used to send out bracket info, updates on team counts, deadlines, contests, maps, directions, special offers, hotels, team check-in, ceremonies, etc.  Please try to have as many folks from your team registered here as possible.

We'd also love for you to feel free to share it with other teams, or friends, etc.  Hopefully, this will help them make the decision to join us one year!

At the Heart of What We DO
spacer (1K)
Pitch for the Cure is a girls' fastpitch softball tournament that raises funds for Chicks Charities but also has additional global ambitions attached to it.  We connect regional youth to fight against breast cancer and empower girls to be active for change in their communities.

The 5th Annual Pitch for the Cure is presented by Northwest Arkansas Fastpitch Softball Association dba Springdale Chicks, in special partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure Ozark Affiliate.

Pitch for the Cure in ESPN RISE
spacer (1K)
Garland Cooper with ESPN Rise wrote an article about Pitch for the Cure that appeared on the ESPN site during Jimmy V week.  She interviewed Gina Bartholomew with Pitch for the Cure (yep, that's me).  She also spoke with some players that have been to our event several times.  These players have had breast cancer impact their families so they have a special connection with Pitch for the Cure.

Kourtni Vargas is mentioned in the article.  She plays with Blaze Fastpitch out of Oklahoma City.  They play each year for Grammie Blaze!

Jessica Hartig was also interviewed and mentioned.  She has also has been a repeat participant at Pitch for the Cure.  In 2009 she played with Team Arkansas '95 from Central Arkansas.  They won their division and brought the 1st place trophy home to her mom Tracy.  I met Tracy at the very first Pitch for the Cure back in 2006.  She told me then that she was surviving breast cancer.  As of when the article ran she is still battling....with our prayers.

In 2009, we hosted 142 teams!  The goal for 2010 is 150 teams.  Bring your players to a tournament they won't forget!

Our EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION deadline:
Registrations postmarked by April 1, 2010 save $25.00 off the regular $245.00 fee!  Plus these early teams are registered in a bonus drawing.

  • All tournament games and activities will take place in NW Arkansas.  We use the J. B. Hunt Softball Complex and Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale, Gary Hampton and Lake Fayetteville parks in Fayetteville plus Doc Wheeler Park in Rogers.
  • This is a DOUBLE POINTS USSSA weekend!
  • Pitch for the Cure provides all game balls and scorekeeping.
  • At team check-in, players receive a player gift bag with great giveaway products from our sponsors and supporters.
  • Non-player (& non-coach) attendees will pay a gate entrance fee each day.  (Teams do not pay a team "gate fee".)
  • First place teams in each fastpitch bracket will receive softball helmets with face guards for the entire team!
  • Individual awards are presented for 1st-4th place teams.
  • Teams can pre-order event shirts to guarantee sizes and colors.

Pre-Order Event Shirts

spacer (1K)
In 2009 we began offering our event shirts as a pre-ordered team item.  It was wildly successful.  A large number of people were able to get the shirt size and color they chose without worrying about us selling out during the weekend.  They were bundled up for them to pick up all at once, nice and neat!  We sold a record number of shirts (even though we ordered extra) and we only had a handful left at the end of the weekend.

For our 5th Anniversary event, four colors are being offered with a design that really says it all!  In an instant the eye can collect all the important catch phrases about Pitch for the Cure plus the perfect pink awareness ribbon.

You can order these for $10.00/ea (add'l fees for plus sizes) by purchasing a minimum of 10.  They can be purchased at the time of team registration or later.  But there is a deadline!

"Give a day.  Get a Disney Day."  With us!!
spacer (1K)
If you have time to volunteer or know someone that would be interested, please check out our volunteer listings through www.volunteermatch.org.  These positions sit on our site in a summary form at:   Volunteer Opportunities

We are also very excited to be part of Disney's "Give A Day, Get A Disney Day" that promotes volunteerism in 2010.  We'll have volunteers working with us during Pitch for the Cure that will giving their time and getting a pass to a Disney park.  The response has been enormous and their generosity overwhelming.  Some volunteers are coming from other parts of the state (and other states) and giving us days of their time rather than just the minimum number of hours.

Isn't it exciting that they want to come be a part of what all of you are doing?!

Find a Great Hotel
spacer (1K)
We have set up some great hotels for you to choose from this year.  Not only have we given you more options than in any other year, but we've asked our hotels to provide more details on their accommodations.

When you look at the hotel section of our site this year, you'll first notice comments from us on where you might be playing.  You'll then be able to start looking in the city of your choice for a hotel.  We have hotels in Springdale, Fayetteville, Rogers and Bentonville.

Partner Hotels have agreed to give us rates for you, plus provide Pitch for the Cure with assistance on other areas such as Silent Auction Items or Hospitality Items for volunteers, etc.  That's why you'll notice them listed at the top of the pages for their respective cities.

When you choose to look at a hotel, you'll be taken to a page that was designed especially for them.  It shows all the details of their hotel along with pictures.  You'll see  pricing for the type of room they offer, local food options, laundry options....and every hotel has listed the distance to each and every ballpark!

We've tried to provide you with all the info that you need to make the best decision for your team or family.  Please let us know how this new system works for you!

Duplicates?  Drop us a note....
spacer (1K)
We are still trying to work out the bugs between the new newsletter program and the old fashioned cut and paste system.  Unfortunately, there could be some overkill since we don't want to miss anyone!  Please trust that we are trying to make it as seamless as possible.

PLEASE just drop us a nice little email to let us know if you have received a duplicate of this newsletter.  If you get the newsletter and then also an email directing you to the newsletter, let us know.  That will help confirm that you are receiving them and we'll mark you off that silly old-fashioned list.  Thanks in advance for your patience and for not sending us to your spam folders!  eventchair@pitchforthecure.org
